If I were someone who worked outside, I’d been really mad at the weather. But since I work out at the gym (mostly!), the weather doesn’t affect me at all.

But you know what? It’s hard. I really need to go to a gym where there are no distractions, no excuses and where I can totally focus on spending that allocated time exercising and nothing else. At home, I have the phone ringing, or the neighbor dropping by and that’s it, all my willpower goes out the window.

Well, the sad news though is that the women’s ski jumping event has been taken off the 2010 Winter Olympics line-up because there are apparently too few competitors from around the world.

This, of course, comes as a major disappointment for a whole lot of people whose favorite event is ski jumping, and especially for those who are making the trip to Canada just for the Winter Olympics. Some have even booked ski holidays to coincide with the Olympics.

Ski jumping is a very popular event that many, including me and my kids, love to watch. So how can they justify canceling the event only for the women and not the men? I just don’t understand.

Last I heard, there’s a petition going round to rally support for the women ski jumpers to be allowed to compete. These poor women have trained hard and long and to be told they can’t compete is just crazy!! I hope the Olympics committee will reinstate the event!

Gym trainers will tell you that you can spot reduce, i.e. work on just that one part of your body. To slim down one part, any part requires a total workout. If you slim down overall, whichever part you want to reduce will automatically follow. You just need to get some strength training into those arms and parts you want to target.

I don’t have a personal trainer. I don’t like someone looking over my shoulder and pushing me. I like to do things at my own pace. But if you’re someone who lacks the willpower and consistency to work out without someone cracking the whip, then I guess a personal trainer would be a great help.
