Going to beauty school

Did I ever mention I have a very vain niece? When she was a kid, she would visit us with her little pink toiletries bag stuffed with beauty items and terrorize us with her hair-styling and makeup pretend play.

Whenever my kids saw her coming, they would try to run away for fear of having their hair torn out by the roots. She was so cute she would chase them round the house and outdoors.

It’s not surprising at all when I heard that she is planning to go to Regency Beauty Institute to take up a beauty course now that she’s just finished high school. Quite frankly, there’s no one more cut out for this kind of career than her.

I just watched a video about the latest trends for fall. Not all of them are my cup of tea because they are mostly really long tops that I don’t fancy. I would rather pair a short top with a long jacket or a long top with a short jacket. Some of them are nice and quite unique but I find that clothes in the fall are rather dull in color. How do you layer your tops? Would you wear sequins this fall?

I recently took my son to have a new pair of eyeglasses fitted before he heads off to college. I also asked for a copy of the prescription from the optician with the intention of having my son order a spare pair online.

Strangely enough, the optician was not too keen to part with the pupillary distance reading. PD is the distance between the pupils of the eyes, center to center, measured in millimeters. This reading is required to ensure correct eyeglass fitment.

Apparently opticians are increasingly reluctant to part with your PD reading. It’s a growing trend as many opticians are finding that their customers are taking their prescription to have their eyeglasses made online very inexpensively at places like ZenniOptical.com, and they don’t like that!

So many opticians are realizing this so they’re charging for the prescriptions or part of. Sure they can charge for their eye test service but they should have their customer’s interests at heart and not withhold their PDs or their prescription.

The customer should be allowed to choose who makes their eyeglasses and if they can save money and find a bigger selection of trendy frames to choose from, I say why not?

I popped into my regular optical store over the weekend hoping to get a new pair of prescription glasses fitted.
