women’s ski jumping in Winter Olympics 2010
My daughter’s friend, an ardent sportswoman, is really looking forward to the Winter Olympics 2010 that’s coming up soon in Vancouver, Canada. I don’t blame her, this sort of event is very exciting not only for the sporty types but also for couch potatoes.
Well, the sad news though is that the women’s ski jumping event has been taken off the 2010 Winter Olympics line-up because there are apparently too few competitors from around the world.
This, of course, comes as a major disappointment for a whole lot of people whose favorite event is ski jumping, and especially for those who are making the trip to Canada just for the Winter Olympics. Some have even booked ski holidays to coincide with the Olympics.
Ski jumping is a very popular event that many, including me and my kids, love to watch. So how can they justify canceling the event only for the women and not the men? I just don’t understand.
Last I heard, there’s a petition going round to rally support for the women ski jumpers to be allowed to compete. These poor women have trained hard and long and to be told they can’t compete is just crazy!! I hope the Olympics committee will reinstate the event!
