tips for hassle-free movie-going

We’ve been going to the movies a lot lately. Five movies in three weekends? You’d think we’re on a movie marathon here  . When there are free movies, we’re there. Times are bad so we gotta take what we can get.

But not all the movies we watch are free. Movies don’t come cheap either. That’s why you’ll notice that most of movie-goers are couples, very few families.

A trip to the movies for me and the kids, that’s four of us, can easily cost us RM100 for tickets, popcorn, lunch and parking. My friend in Penang swears that’s a fortune she would never spend. She’s also thanking her lucky stars she has no kids to bring to the movies in the first place.

But there are ways to reduce the cost and the hassle. We book our tickets online to avoid having to stand in line. We just need to make sure we get there 45 minutes ahead of show time to collect our tickets, otherwise they’ll sell your tickets to someone else.

If you have to stand in line for tickets, you’re incurring hourly parking. With prebooked tickets, you cut down the time and the cost as well. It also leaves us a whole lot of time for our bathroom run and to line up for popcorn.

Popcorn looks cheap but it isn’t. Popcorn bundled with drinks is cheaper. If that’s still not cheap enough for you, smuggle in your own snacks and water. Eating out is expensive. You can save money by eating at home before or after the movie.

But if you ask me, if you’re out for a good time with your kids, forget about the cost and just have fun  .
