Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

If the kids could choose between Iron Man and Indiana Jones, they’d definitely pick Iron Man. They think Indiana Jones is an old man and therefore, he can’t be anywhere as cool as Iron Man.

So when I got free tickets, Steev and I went without the girls. Free tickets that come with a cocktail party and popcorn would be too good to pass up. These days, anything that’s free is good.

Besides I’ve watched every single Indiana Jones movie and enjoyed it, and I sure wasn’t going to miss this one.

In Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Indy gets caught up in some Soviet plot to uncover the secret behind the one mysterious alien-shaped skulls missing from a whole bunch of other crystal skulls sitting in some obscure cave somewhere.

The movie starts right off the bat with this talk about getting old and being old and old age. Then there’s this emphasis on fusty old professors – the Dean of the university where Indiana teaches, Professor Oxley and Mac, the double double agent.

Why so much emphasis on old age and the fact that Harrison Ford is much older now than when he played the last Indiana Jones? Aren’t those ancient artifacts and thousand year-old caves and skeletons old enough?

Fact is Harrison Ford still looks great as always, even at his age. He doesn’t look like he’s aged much at all and he’s very fit physically. Good thing they found him his old girlfriend (Karen Allen) back, and a son he didn’t know he had (Shia LeBeouf), not a grandson  .

Did I enjoy the movie? Big resounding yes. I couldn’t possibly NOT enjoy a free movie at the cinema now, can I?

We saw Indiana Jones two days ago. It was as good as the rest of the series…and although some of the plot twists related to the characters were a bit of a surprise, the formula was not. I mean, they all knew the place was going to come down in a wreck, and that things would fall down behind them, just missing them each time, as they made their hasty retreat. It was good entertainment.
