a cool picnic idea

Have you ever had a picnic IN your car before? No? Well then, you really should try it. I stumbled upon this idea by accident.
I had to drive Raine to her tutor’s house which is like miles away. It took us 40 minutes to get there in the heavy downpour and rush hour traffic. Skye came along with me for a ride.
Raine’s class is 1.5 hours. Now from experience, I know that in that kind of weather and traffic condition, it would take me an hour (at least) to get home, and then I’d have to head straight back out to pick her up again. Entirely pointless and a total waste of time and gas.
So we decided that if the traffic was bad, we would just wait for Raine in front of her tutor’s house for 1.5 hours to avoid having to drive back and forth. Well, traffic WAS bad so I parked my minivan outside, switched off the engine and Skye and I settled down to wait.
We’d brought a book each to read, some drinks, and even chips and snacks to munch on. It was raining heavily and the weather outside was really cool. So I rolled down the windows a little to let the evening breeze in. Really nice and cozy.
Now here’s where I have to rave about the beauty of my minivan configuration. I can walk around inside from the driver’s seat all the way to the back without having to open the doors and get out. Which was exactly what I did.
Skye pulled out the trays and laid out the snacks, and I just popped back to the middle row of seats to join her. We kicked off our shoes, chatted and chomped on our snacks, and when we were done, we lowered our seats to a reclining position, switched on the lights and got down to some reading.
Actually I sorta fell asleep, not that the book was boring, it was just so cool and comfy. Wow, what a blast we had. Raine text messaged to ask where we were and what were up to.
Where else would we be but having a picnic in our minivan under a tree in the pouring rain outside.
