why bake a butter cake?

Just when it seems like I’ve hung up my spatula and cake tin for good, the girls want to bake a cake with me. So reluctantly but with all good intentions, we went out one sunny afternoon to buy the ingredients for a butter cake.

I wish I’d thought to buy one because as it turned out, we happened to come across some freshly baked butter cake coming out of the oven at one of the deli’s and we stopped to try some.

I hate to admit it but it actually tasted quite good – piping hot, very buttery, not too sweet. For all intents and purposes, we could’ve been taking it out of our own oven at home.

So if you’re thinking of baking your own, forget it unless your recipe is a priceless classic handed down from six generations ago. Just walk into your favorite deli and pick one up. No need to get your hands dirty, and no washing up  . The only trick is to find one that’s so fresh it’s just on its way out of the oven  .
