walking slims you down

I was reading on CNN about how some overweight folks managed to lose up to 170+ pounds. Wow, I say that’s a stupendous achievement if I ever saw one. It sure must take tons of willpower and determination to shed off half your body weight.

I find that one of the most effective ways of losing weight is walking. It sounds like a piece of cake, right? But in my experience, it only works if you keep at it. You can’t walk for a couple of days, stop for a week, then walk for another few days and hope that the pounds will fall off just like that.

I’ve tried walking on flat ground around the neighborhood for a half hour a day three times a week, and nothing happened. It was only when I started using the treadmill three times a week that I started to slim down.

Actually it wasn’t my purpose to slim down. I just wanted to get some cardio in before my actual workouts. But I noticed that as I increased the intensity and length of my walk, I started losing weight… fast.

So I know walking really does work. If you want to lose weight, start walking and as you get stronger, progress to longer distances and a steeper gradient. Do this religiously over a period of time without increasing your food intake and you should slim down.
