On a whim, we decided to take the kids to Kek Lok Si temple when we were in Penang. They’d never been there.
On our last trip, they were quite a bit younger and we didn’t quite relish the two of us having to half-carry three kids up those steps to the top.
But this time, we felt much more ready. The narrow walkway with the little shops at the sides are still there, I was surprised.
Even the souvenirs and things they’re selling are still pretty much the same as before. I thought they’d have tarred the place out to become one of those exercise paths.
Gosh, the giant tortoises are still there. I wonder how many of them remember seeing me there as a teenager
.
Goodness gracious, some of them must be hundreds of years old! See, I knew there had to be a benefit to eating veggies and chewing them good and slow.
We wandered around the levels of temples as we wound our way up to the top of the highest pagoda.
Reminded me of Quasimodo’s daily trips up the tower to ring the bell. Wow, what a great workout and what a great view of the island!
